My Practice
Welcome to my practice. I work primarily with couples who are struggling with their relationships, whether it’s because of emotional disconnection, infidelity, or the overwhelming challenges of family life and career demands.
Most people who come to me for help complain about difficulties with communication (“it seems like we can’t talk to each other without having a fight,” or “he never tells me anything about what’s going on with him!”) but inevitably what we discover together is that partners have developed repeating patterns of conflict and disconnection. Arguments might be about any number of things (the dishes, money, laundry, in-laws) but they usually feel the same. Conflict takes on a wash-rinse-repeat quality and couples often feel they get caught in a loop that is difficult to get out of. It’s a painful thing to feel isolated or at odds with your person, the one you chose to build a life and relationship with.
Couple therapy offers a way out of this cycle. I am passionate about couple therapy and there’s nothing quite like witnessing two people re-connect and fall in love again.
Clinical research has shown time and again that a good match between therapist and client is vital to successful therapy. I know from experience that finding a therapist can be a major challenge. I offer a brief, no fee consultation before booking your first session so you can help determine if we are a good fit.

Couple Therapy
Couple relationships are the source of tremendous comfort and joy, but also have the potential to be exquisitely painful and challenging. Pair bonding is part of what makes us human and we have evolved to seek out and attach to a partner. Modern life puts extraordinary strains on our couple relationships and struggles are inevitable. I utilize a couple therapy model called Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, developed by the late Dr. Sue Johnson. This approach is rooted in attachment theory and is backed by decades of robust clinical research. I use this model because it is the best way I have found to understand and bring about change in distressed couple relationships.
Relationally Oriented Individual Counseling
Although my primary focus is on couple work, I also see individuals for a variety of reasons. At times, focused individual work is needed as an adjunct to couple therapy, and can accelerate the progress of couple work. In cases like this, where possible I work in conjunction with a couples’ therapist to coordinate appropriate individual work with the partner needing individual attention. There are also times when one partner is not able or willing to participate in couple therapy and individual work is the only viable option. Individual work, when done through a relational lens, can still have a significant impact on the quality of a relationship. All of my individual work is relationally oriented as I am of the conviction that all of our struggles occur in a relational context.
Mormons
In addition to my work with couples, I also dedicate a portion of my practice to working with members or former members of the LDS church to address issues such as faith transitions, mixed-faith marital challenges, crises of faith, and being LGBTQ+ in the church. For more information on this aspect of my practice you can visit my profile on the Mormon Mental Health Association website.
